The Need

For too long, authentic representation of First Nations peoples, cultures and stories has been excluded from the educational setting. This has created a lack of knowledge and minimal understanding of the diversity of First Nations histories and cultures.

The 2019 Closing the Gap report indicated that one in five First Nations children are below the national minimum standard in reading in Year 3, and identifies a clear link between cultural connection and culturally safe schools to address this disadvantage.

Racism and discrimination have shown to impact children’s achievement and experiences at school. First Nations youth should be shielded from bullying and racial discrimination.

The Solution

Jajoo Warrngara : The Culture Classroom

To address this need SharingStories Foundation has created Jajoo Warrngara: The Culture Classroom in collaboration with 11 First Nations partner communities.

Jajoo Warrngara aims to co-create 1000 hours of resources with 34 communities across 8 states/territories within three years, benefiting 110,000 students and 4,355 educators.

Jajoo Warrngara is a revolutionary resource which supports educators around Australia embed First Nations perspectives in ways that are culturally safe for both educators and students, creating learning environments in which all children can thrive.

Your valuable donation supports SharingStories collaboration with First Nations partner communities to share stories, create cultural short films and educational resources for students across Australia to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
